Earth Day 2024: Sustainable Productions
There is so much waste in our industry. Just one single hour of TV in the UK generates 5.7 tonnes of CO2e. When you begin to consider the hours of content on Netflix, the picture only darkens.
At times, it can feel like an insurmountable feat trying to combat statistics like this, but like most of our peers in our industry, we are committed to do our best by looking at ourselves.
Last year, Eric Tom & Bruce implemented an environmental check-in on all productions to ensure our sustainability practices are upheld before each shoot, then evaluated after.
If you’ve worked with us before, or are new here, here’s some of the eco-friendly practises we are striving to achieve on our ETB shoots:
BYO keep cup and water bottle
All catering, plates and utensils to be recyclable or biodegradable
Careful recycling and disposal of goods
Leftover food: (if safe) to be taken home, not thrown away. Anything that isn't taken home popped into the ETB office compost bin.
No print outs where possible. Production paperwork provided electronically or if absolutely required printed double sided on recycled paper.
More recently, some of the world’s biggest production houses came together to create the Green Production Guide: an aggregated online resource encouraging the reduction of carbon emissions in the entertainment industry through shared education, training and practices. This got us thinking about what other Australian agencies and studios are doing on their sets and where we can go to help each other. So, we’re putting the question out here. What more can we do? What’s working for you? And what should we invest in to help our planet?
