Finding the perfect location

Reading a script is pretty exciting— that is, unless you’re the producer, in which case you’ll most likely be emotionally preparing yourself for the complex locations you’ll be tasked to find.

Yep, finding the perfect space for a shoot is a delicate practice —one that almost always takes more time, effort and creative input than expected. It’s less about the aesthetic of a location and so much more about the practicality and creative flexibility a space provides.

So how do we go about finding the best one?

  1. We cast a wide search net, collaborating with location agencies, our networks and own database to find a broad range of suitable options.

  2. We consider each location against a pre-production check-list, ensuring it meets every requirement from both a visual and practicality perspective such as: accessibility, toilets, entry and exit points, parking and so on.

  3. We scout locations in-person with crew (aka: a recce)

  4. We consider and capture various frames while at a recce to ensure both crew and client have a visual reference of space, light, depth of field, camera movements and positioning.
