This is a question for all the marketers, account directors, producers, directors and content creators out there: How many of you have written, seen or received a brief with ABC’s “You Can’t Ask That” as a reference?
…EVERYONE? Cool.
You may think we're about to knock You Can’t Ask That. We're not. We've never seen a single show, film or ad referenced so frequently across so many different industries and genres.
And we know why. It demonstrates how good stand alone interview content can be when it’s well directed and produced.
They’re intimate, authentic, engaging, no bullshit storytelling. And when we are constantly consuming advertising on a daily basis, no bullshit storytelling is a breath of fresh air.
Recently Eric, Tom & Bruce worked with Seek to produce a 4-part series about career change.
It was clear from the beginning the most integral part of this series was going to be the stories and the people. Not a particularly unique or groundbreaking treatment we could come up with.
So we kept the visual treatment simple and focused all our energy on casting, interview prep and narrative structure.
And what we ended up with is a powerful, educational and emotional series that helps de-stigmatise and demystify career change from a diverse range of perspectives.
